I'm not here to push you, probe you, catch you out or work you out. I don't think such approaches are respectful of the richness, value and autonomy I believe you to have. It's also more useful and sustainable if you can, in relation with me, come to work yourself out. So we'll work together at whatever pace you feel is comfortable, and go wherever you want to go.
‘It is you who knows what hurts, what directions to go, what problems are crucial, what experiences have been deeply buried.’ - Carl Rogers
I believe your life and experience is unique, and no matter how attuned I am I can never know how it is to be you better than you do. Because of that I don't think I'm in the best position to offer you advice, guidance or solutions - I imagine you may well have had plenty of that from others already. Instead, through me truly understanding you, this two-way process will enable you to understand yourself in new and insightful ways.
It's worth saying that I'm not at all aloof and I do answer questions. It's just that ultimately I think you are, or have the capacity to become, the expert on yourself. My expertise is offering you a relationship in which you'll come to find it easier to listen to, know and accept yourself, and from there, you'll be in a good position to be able to make more genuinely fulfilling choices.
